The purpose I am writing this hub; this area of interest of “The Art Negotiating 101”, is for the reason that frankly I am, as a result, the most awful salesperson alive on this planet, subsequently, my dog essentially via constantly hanging out and remains around me; all the time. With strong desire to please;, maybe perhaps she may well have singled out my dreadful sales habits, pronto she also sucks in sales. She is charming and sweet like me, although she, babies, with her style of gobbledygook botched even while demanding to sell a dog cookie, or drawn to solicit this stupid cook she surely tried to give it away for free! for that matter. The dogie cookie store would not even try a free organic dogie cookie. Still up to today I blame this botched sale on babies!!!!
In sales, I appreciate, how to each time, get my foot in the door and chew the fat with the owners, whom they continuously appear to be fond of me, except when it develop into time to sell, the owners ordered from the salesperson next to me, I detested sales, why you ask? I could NOT, for the life of me, close a deal, same with going to garage sales I needed to learn the skill of negotiating and so did my dog.
I have two impressive friends who make profitable deals and produced respectable and an enjoyable living, Even though I am retired and will NEVER be in a sales position, I liked it when Wolf and Jim gave me an in-sight on how to achieve this. Wolf spends many days a week at live actions, he has been going their for 30 years, he provided me with oodles of advise. Then there is my neighbors Pat and Jim who enjoy spends their time at garage sales, flea markets, second hand stores and they find valuable times each time. They sell at their own location inside a year round flea market and make a good living. Here is some great advice.
Times have changed and there is a new way negotiating, you can even learn to get price mark downs in the stores. Each business is in a similar situation, these days are hard times. Consequently, let's see what tactics for negotiating are the best, hey with your help I might get better at it?
Therefore let's start with discussing some effective negotiating on signing for a monthly service. Accordingly, you might want to join a gym, and the gym you like charges about $75.00 per month. You let them know you have been doing your research and that the other gym's only charge $50.00 per month. You would be willing to pay the $50.00 and no more then that. At this moment you have put on the "squeeze," he will go and get the owner, and than he will offer you $45.00 to sign now. This is called, wins win strategies, and sounds simple? But, it's still hard for me to do...
Furthermore, take into account bundling services, research different companies, then when you call them they will all offer you a discount if you hold your ground. Try to enter a store at closing time, convince the sales person to offer you a last minute sale, like 40% off. Also, when hiring someone to do some work in your home or yard, get bids, and find the one you like and tell him he is too pricey compared to your other offers there is a skill to negotiating. This also works while buy a new car, remember you can always walk away, make it a, win win negotiating experience, this is an effective negotating to reach your target price.
If you want to buy something that is expensive, take your time, slow down. I get really annoyed with aggressive sales people follow me around a store, I ask them to leave me alone while I look, tell them to come back if they can offer you a great deal on the table you want, or you plan on shopping around, this is a great tactic negotiating, you hold the power. Remember, there are many places that sell that high end item you want and you will find the right person to come way down on a price. This is a great time to negotiate any deal, there "mark ups" have always been high, so they know what deal is good. So maybe now I can get brave enough to try to do this, I was at a garage sale with my friends this last week end and I watched them with amazement. Good luck with your wheeling and dealing.

You are not the worst salesperson...I am. It would be great if I could have a negotiator anytime I need him or her.
Definitely agree with negotiations, Darski and I absolutely HATE people who follow me around the store with their high pressure techniques. I have been tempted to say quite a few times 'you just lost the sale pal...I don't need a babysitter to make up my own mind'. I usually just give them the look over the top of my glasses as if to say 'do you MIND - can I have some space?'
All good things in life are worth thinking about and figuring out need versus want. Then getting the best price is always my second consideration.
Great piece - and happy New Year!!
Thanks for this important contribution. People are having to do more with less due to the tough economy, so blogs like yours certainly make living easier.
Negotiations have always been a part of our lives but when the economy is as 'sick' as it is currently, learning to negotiate skillfully is even more important. It is an easy skill to learn and like assertive behavior, practice makes it easier. :)
Great article Dear Friend! Negotiations are always part of life it seems. And I try to make them at every opportunity that I can, always trying to get things at a lower cost. I cannot say that is one of my favorite things to do, but often you can get prices lower at a sale, or flea market, things like that. I voted it up!
Blessings and hugs,
Laurie
Life is a negotiation. We all do what we can; well most of us! :-D Rated up!
We are actually always selling something, if not products or services, ourselves and our ideas. We are always yearning for that wonderful feeling after a successful sale of any kind. (Are we not ‘selling’ our hubs/thoughts?)
I think the most difficult to sell is a dream – like an untroubled life in a paradisiacal retirement valley, or a home (which estate agents in fact have to sell instead of a house), and to be treated like a queen in a five star hospital while we are ill and maybe dying.... not to talk about eternal life! Selling products and services are easy – people want/need what they see or they don’t.
Great hub, Darski. You’ve got so much sparkle in you, I am sure you will be able to sell dreams.
Garage sales, thrift stores, and flea markets are the way to go. "And the cheap shall inherit the earth!"
Well worded and written hub. I have learned a lot and it will help me in the future. Thank you.
Life is definitely about negotiations.I am not good at clinching the deal! Great hub Darski - I learned a great deal.
Negotiation is part of life but not one I particularly like. Good hub girlfriend! Peace and Love!! Tom
Love the kitties playing patty cake or trying to... This is very important as we should learn to assert ourselves and it can be so easy to just walk away or forget about it! Thanks for the helpful encouragement! Love Ya chicklet, Katie :)
Hilarious dentist negotiation video, I love it.
..actually my 'take' on you Darlene is you are a very persuasive and confident person when it comes to writing about 'getting your way' - I find it quite attractive in fact - and of course alluring too - but then again I know of you to be both - so there you have it - one of the most attractive and alluring people at Hubpages who can write up a proverbial storm on just about any subject out there - and believe me - you always do!!!!!
Let's negotiate! What would you take for this hub? God bless you Darski! I love you Girl!
What a wonderful art, "negotiations", so many great deals have been won and lost at the art of (or lack of) negotiations.
We are never to old to learn new tricks and you have given several ideas about how to negotiate deals in our everyday lives.
I have to agree about the pesky high pressure salespeople, I detest it so much, that I will actually leave the store.
To another great hub and a prosperous New Year! Rated up, useful and awesome...
You have the cats in the video and the greatest techniques.Rated up and as always a wonderful day to you.
First, your patty-cake kitty video is hilarious! Your tips and advice for negotiating successfully can make all of the difference. Great work here, thanks! Up and awesome.
