We all suffer the insanity of certainty
Senior people Personal Financial Live Issue:
My primary point I desire to reveal, is In documenting this hub as part of this months, here on Hubpages; this is January’s contest theme; retirement, savings, finance planning, stocks, bonds, work investments, old age planning, living comfortable at retirement, and all the details involved in finances. I enclosed and already recorded another hub, about this issue that, to my surprised, was not that well received. People don’t get it; until you live it I wrote about the truth about seniors and survival for awhile now. Furthermore unless you live it, it’s not believable, you see it as surreal, yet it’s like I have walloped up some extremely hot steam to complain. This is the TRUTH, the reality, of living on social security and aging is a HUGE issue.
Limited income remains for how nearly all senior exist, don’t allow the stories of living life in luxury, buying a large Winnebago to travel, heck they can’t even afford gas in today’s world. Living today; there are more old folks on the edge of one utility bill to being severed. Being so sick; their Minds, Soul, Spirit and of course their bodies, they can’t afford their medical insurance, or their co-pays. Therefore, if you can't afford your doctors and you owe a past co-pay they don’t even care and will not see you; because you can’t afford your health benefits’, so for now, let’s look at the truth, not the maybe 10% of seniors who were smart, rich, have wealthy families, or just had a great retirement package and make a great living as a CEO.
Currently, at this exact moment in time, all the seniors on Medicare for the second year have and will NOT, get our yearly cost of living increase, due to; the auto industry and the banks. Forget about those seniors who those, the government, have to pay out monthly social security checks and social security disability. They still deduct the Medicare cost before you see your check, and it has skyrocketed each year, and to add insult to injury, it cost about $98.00 out of our check which only makes it lower anyway. Um I trust you don’t suppose I am disturbed about not being able to buy food, pay my doctors bill, have my dog groomed, pay my co-pays, afford prescriptions, etc. No, I am so weary of being agonized regarding roughly speaking, about my concern over each month, and how I will get through it, I only wish I was well enough to work. Even if you are working they will deduct that income by remove it from any benefits you accrue. I will go into detail on this issue in part two.
I was driven and a professional manager with large corporations, sometimes I worked two job, then I married very well, divorced and went back again to succeed, and worked hard all my life. Yes, I was 52 years old whilst I had my accident, which distorted my back and I can’t walk, other than around the house; I sit on a stool with wheels to cook, clean and wash dishes. As a result, in actual fact, and if truth be told, I on no account accepted wisdom about this fact about our future on aging. Old people did not exist in my world, anyway, heck I was busy and going to live forever, my life was great, therefore why must I be concerned or reflect about getting old.. Truly, I can’t imagine how many of us, that I knew for a fact, that I know, all my friend think; simply thought the same as I. I am ahead of my other baby boomers friends and co-hearts, for the reason of my accident, currently I am poor, yet the money of social security disability sounded normal the first year sounded customary, sure in 2002 it was sensible during that year, not knowing about our future and our world changes at this point, this must insane, and I feel fooled and badly informed in a jiffy, here in 2011… Perhaps, less then a year or two at this rate the government is progressing, we will all be homeless and create our own utopia for the aging. I am now 62 years old, and what will happened to seniors and disabled in their finances, is must be a hoax.
It’s unmanageable to plan or save given that we have to outline every month, what bills will get’s paid, what will be turned off and how will I get enough food. Eating, an alternative subject, I dwell in the mountains of Colorado, thus having a garden may not be possible or workable, unless of course I owned a nice warm, moist green house. However, getting back to the impossible budget, that is our check, that does not cover the bills, and the most important thing to pay is the rent…The rent is half of my check. Of course my pet food is next, I can’t live without my little dog and cat, and with all my heart they are my children. Nevertheless, to be honest the're simply part of me.
This is not an, “Oh let’s feel sorry for Darski here,” This is part of a contest on writing about finances and financial planning, so this happens to be my take on what is happening to this group of folks. I lost everything in a divorce, so I needed to start over when I strike forty years old, I moved to Cripple Creek Colorado, made great money, although never knew how to save. Then in the year 2002, by then I decided to go back to college, lived in Palm Springs California, studed English, and worked at the same time. Then surprise! an accident, time flies and so did I, yes I flew right out of the car. You never know when your life will change, and mine sure did, planning is so important, however many people just don’t do it, and I am sorry to say most of them will never get it until it is too late. They work and live to pay for a lifestyle that makes them happy. Whatever the reasons, we will talk about the system of Social Security on part two.
We all suffer the insanity of certainty
and the clarity of knowing
that nothing is certain
with the exception of the obvious two!

Sorry for your disability. I have some time before I reach retirement age. But I can't seeing myself retiring. Uncertain about Social Security. The cost of living is too high for my savings now. I wish you the best.
It's so true we think were fine and yet the body continues to break down for us all. It's hard to save anything period these days, with two smart kids who need a college education I feel overwhelmed thinking about a plan that will actually work and with that each and every day ticks by so swiftly. God Bless us each and everyone! Peace and Love! Love you chicklet :) katie
Darsky, I think people don't want to think about your message generally. I wish things were better for you. I also am on disability since 2000 and my medical expenses equal my disability income every years. I am blessed to have a husband and we had 401K which helped. So many people have major problems with no simple solutions. Peace and Love to you Darsky.
Good information, Darski. I learn much from you. Thanks for writing this. You open my eyes about this. That's why I liked join HP to search kind of useful information like this one. Take care!
Prasetio:)
...I know you mean well Darlene and of course this is another well researched hub by someone like you who has so much versatility and savvy when it comes to writing about different subjects BUT I have to put my foot door here and scold you - because you are THE YOUNGEST WOMAN I HAVE MET IN MY LIFE - what are you doing here in a hub about seniors - lol lol - because you're so young at heart and full of life - and you make me feel so gay and carefree and young too!!!!
My plan was to build a business, build a home, and have an ex-wife take it over. It's worked out perfectly. I know where it all is but will never see it again. Great post Darski!
A clearly, detailed and comprehensive hub. Well done.
Darski~ This is powerful and enlightening to say the least. I find myself in awe of your strength, and amazed by your honesty! Thank you for sharing your take about retirement, senior citezens savings and more. A real eye openet if you ask me.
Well done!

I planned some for retirement, thinking it would be enough, now at the age of 67, am still working, although I do enjoy most of my work, finding that as each year goes by, so does the costs of living and that's scary. It's scary knowing our future generous may or may not have SS to suppliment them as they age. It is so important to think ahead so you are able to enjoy your older years. Keep active, your writings are always full of information, food for thought. Take care and God Bless.

I don't even know if there will be any social security left my the time I reach of age, and sharing your story has really got me thinking. I too was in a serious accident that involved breaking my back, and some surgeries of my knee. I am very blessed and thankful to walk and still do all the things I was ever able to do, however I am only 33 years old and my main source of income involves heavy physical labor, there are days my body hurts so much I can barely walk, what will I be doing when I'm in my 50's,60's and much older for work. I hope Lord willing I will always be able to work, but it is just wisdom to save especially if you got nothing to rely on not even social security. Thanks Darlene for sharing, and I wish you the very best, be well my friend.
